10 Songs That Changed My World!

Welcome back everyone!
As you will probably come to learn in future posts, i love music.
I am in no way musically gifted and alot of people would probably say that my taste in music isnt the best but music is a part of me.
At least one hour a day is spent listening to music, more if i have the time.
So bottom line i love music.
A close girlfriend of mine recently came across an article in a newspaper that was talking about '10 Songs that Changed the World' which got her to thinking what ten songs changed her world. She emailed me and we got to work. So i just wanted to share my ten songs.

Ive just copied and pasted from a word document, so here it is,
No laughing!

This is going to be hard. What I decided to go with was songs that have impacted my life or me but that have been on that list for a long time. There are lots of songs that I love that are new to the list but ill stick to the classics. I might make another one later just for the sake of it.

Oh and ive also added the lines that I love best. Sometimes it’s why I relate to them.

  1. Bittersweet Symphony – The Verve

I have loved this song forever. Simple as that. I still get tingles when I hear it. Don’t know if it’s the guy’s voice, the lyrics, the music or all of it together. ‘97

No change, I can't change I can't change, I can't change But I'm here in my mind
I am here in my mind And I'm a million different people from one day to the next
I can't change my mind

  1. Lightening Crashes – Live

This was the biggest hit of Live’s career, which I found surprising. And because its about someone who has lost their life I can relate a little. Plus it was played at that person’s funeral. It was released in ’94 and I had heard of it but I didn’t start loving it till the ep of OTH it was in, the one where Hayley is having her baby. Another song of theirs that I love is ‘Dolphins Cry.’

oh now feel it comin' back again like a rollin' thunder chasing the wind forces pullin' from the center of the earth again. I can feel it.

  1. Clocks – Coldplay

This one was a tough one for me, I love Coldplay, I really do. But trying to decide between Clocks, Fix You, and The Scientist was tough. But once again ‘Clocks’ was the one that I loved first. But the ‘Tears stream down your face’ line in ‘Fix you.’ Is where my tears start. Hahaha. ‘03

Confusion never stops Closing walls and ticking clocks Gonna, come back and take you home I could not stop that you now know Singin, come out upon my seas Curse missed opportunities Am I, a part of the cure Or am I part of the disease

  1. Scream – Michael & Janet Jackson

I was going to put ‘Blood on the dance floor’ because it was the first CD I think I ever bought and I still love it but I think I like this one just a little more. Plus its about pressure, granted for him its from the media but still it’s a good song for when your mad or to work out too. But I love Michael Jackson, I really do, no one else is in his league and the list of MJ songs that I love is a mile long. ‘95

Peek in the shadow Come into the light You tell me I'm wrong Then you better prove you're right You're sellin' out souls but I care about mine I've got to get stronger And I won't give up the fight

5. Numb – Linkin Park

Ok I am a hardcore LP fan, well except for their newest album which was a bitter disappointment but let’s not go there! Haha. I like basically all LP songs, but Numb is the most played. It strikes something in me, I love it. ‘03

I've become so numb I can't feel you there Become so tired so much more aware
I'm becoming this all I want to do Is be more like me and be less like you
And I know I may end up failing too But I know you were just like me With someone disappointed in you

  1. Scream – Chris Cornell

Ok im going to cheat here. This song isn’t old. In fact its only from last year and it was featured in a Season 6 ep of OTH. And I LOVE it. If you don’t know, Chris Cornell is the front man to rock band Audioslave and has been said to have one of the best rock voices of all time. ‘Scream’ is his third solo album and having being produced by Timbaland is very different to anything he has ever done. Timbo is in the background the lyrics talk about a couple arguing, but mainly I just love the music.

Throwing out the blame when you know it ain't my fault Messing with my brain when you want to see me fall There may come a time when I don't bother you at all It isn't my call, it isn't my call. Take a minute to tell you now Don't have to raise my tone Take the level and bring it down I just want you to know I got no trouble with what you said I don't even think you're wrong It's how you say it You lose your head.Girl I'm standing right in front of you

  1. To The Moon And Back – Savage Garden

Ok this one is lame I know that. But I really do like Savage Garden and this is my favourite of those. Its on my most played list on my IPod. Lol. I think its just the way Darren Hayes says ‘Affection’. I remember everything about this song, the first time I heard it, the film clip, going with mum to buy the cd, learning the lyrics. So I suppose, emotionally, it hasn’t really affected me that much, but I adore the song. FYI it was released in ’96. I was 6 or 7 depending on what month.

She can't remember a time when she felt needed If love was red then she was color blind
All her friends they've been tried for treason And crimes that were never defined She's saying"Love is like a barren place And reaching out for human faith is like a journey
I just don't have a map for" So baby's gonna take a dive and Push the shift to overdrive
Send a signal that she's hanging All her hopes on the stars What a pleasant dream

  1. Hanging By A Moment – Lifehouse

I love me some Jason Wade, seriously the guy has the best voice. Yet another song that I have liked for forever and the lyrics? Come on, the whole world can relate! Released in 2000. I also adore about 10 other lifehouse songs, some will, for sure, be at my wedding. But ‘Broken’ is also a stand out.

I'm falling even more in love with you Letting go of all I've held onto I'm standing here until you make me move I'm hanging by a moment here with you I'm living for the only thing I know
I'm running and not quite sure where to go And I don't know what I'm diving into Just hanging by a moment here with you

  1. Breathe Me – Sia

I just found out that Sia is Australian. This song was released in 2003 but is probably Sia’s most well known song. It was used in the Victoria’s secret fashion show and in several TV Commercials. But I came across it on a friends Myspace page! Haha. The lyrics are strong, Sia’s voice is nice yet unusual, its just one of those songs that you can listen too over and over again and still be emotionally affected by it the same way you were the first time.

Help, I have done it again I have been here many times before Hurt myself again today And, the worst part is there's no-one else to blame Be my friend Hold me, wrap me up Unfold me
I am small I'm needy Warm me up And breathe me Ouch I have lost myself again Lost myself and I am nowhere to be found, Yeah I think that I might break I've lost myself again and I feel unsafe

  1. Hurricane – 30 Seconds to Mars

Again I am cheating because this song has only been out since December. Well actually it isnt even one of their released songs its just on the album. I like TSTM, I have since their first album, they remind me a lot of LP because Jared Leto is so balsy with his lyrics, talking about everything to do with the war and politics and sexuality. And his voice on this song is just, its almost orgasmic. Lol. For lack of a better word. It features Kanye West but don’t be turned off by this. I have never heard him be more suited to anything else.

Songs have affected me, but none have affected me as fast as this one did. First listen and I was lost.

Pure Brilliance.

No matter how many times that you told me you wanted to leave No matter how many breaths that you took you still couldn't breathe No matter how many nights that you lied wide awake to the sound of the pausing rain Where did you go? where did you go? where did you go? Heart beat, a heart beat, I need a... heart beat, a heart beat... Tell me would you kill to save for a life? Tell me would you kill to prove you're right? Crash, crash, burn let it all burn This hurricane is chasing us all underground. No matter how many deaths that I die, I will never forget No matter how many lives I live, I will never regret There's a fire inside this heart and a riot about to explode into flames Where is your God? Where is your God? Where is your God? ... Do you really want? Do you really want me? Do you really want me dead? Or alive to torture for my sins? You say you wrong, you wrong, I'm right, I'm right, you're wrong, we fight Ok, I'm running from the light, running from the day to night Oh, the quiet silence defines our misery The riot inside keeps trying to visit me No matter how we try, it's too much history Too many bad notes playing in our symphony So let it breathe, let it fly, let it go Let it fall, let it crash, burn slow And then you call upon God Oh you call upon God

An Introduction

Hi everyone!

Ok so I have finally caved and got a 'Blogger' despite the fact that i have a LiveJournal already... However i have decided that because the contents of my LJ is very personal and its where i pour my heart out that i should make this blog a little more light hearted. You know, talk about my day post reviews on my favourite books and recipes etc etc.

Ok to start off, Rayleigh Sawyer is a pen name. I will never, ever reveal my real name on my blogs. Although sometimes i wish i could just to link you to my other sites but i think i use a different name for each of them! haha.
I am female, 20 years old, i live in Sydney NSW, Australia.
My passion is writing and i am currently trying to finish off my second book as well as get my first one out there. I could not live without music. My love of music is extensive and it is involved in every day of my life. I mainly like hip hop and softer more mellow emotional music (not emo though!) two very different extremes!

I like cars and motorbikes (Go Valentino Rossi!) My favorite TV shows are Top Gear and Supernatural.
I love the beach, i live close by, and my Boyfriend, who will always be referred to as 'The Boy.'

I think that covers the basics. Ill be back soon! xox
